As stated by one of his teachers it's not only great to
have his talents but even greater to use them.
DJ Kevy Kev started djaying at the age of 13 in 1983
with the TDK Crew in West Philadelphia.
As being accustom to industry success by his
grandmother who designed for the likes of The
Spinners and Patti Labelle to his uncles that played
drums and percussion for The Intruders he grew up
often seeing his creative bloodline at work.
DJ Kev spun at many house parties on the north and
south sides of Market Street often taking backseats to
most of his crew however showing his talents when
they were at best needed. He started to hone his skills
by listening to some of the unknown best such as
Brian Dennis and Mix master Mike. Thought he loved
Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money, Grand Dragon, Grand Wizard
Rasheen, Cosmic Kev and DJ Finesse, he fell in love
with the blends of Lawrence Lavon, and Don Mystic
Mack in the late 80's.
As time went on Kevy Kev experienced much success
at around the way events such as The Roundtable and
61st & Market frequent spot back in the day along with
various house parties.
As the late 80's arose DJ Kevy Kev landed his first club
at " Salsa" Roses behind Freddie E and Leather Lou.
Aftermidnight was the spot and Roses would often get
the overflow or the crowds when the Midnight was shut
down. He continue until 1990 where he land several
gigs at Faces, Dances, Illusions, and the list goes on.
In 1994 DJ Kev Kevy shared the likes at Illusion with
Ricky D and EZ G. From that pack he met Don Mack
and Joe Callarii which thrusted him into a major scene
at Bahama Bay, Vegas and Club Escape with the likes
of DJ Doc B, DJ Ran and DJ Cool C.
In 1997 DJ Kev land his most famed and successful
gig at Pegasus Night Club and was the lead off DJ on
103.9 and 100.3 The Beat on Live Saturday nites until
1994 where he spun with the likes of DJ Touch Tone,
Jay Ski, Cory DST, Greg Nitty, Bent Roc, Rated R DJ
Kam and the list goes on.
In 1994 after the closing of Pegasus Kevy Kev did a
short stint with Club 027 and then formed
his own promo along with two partners called Finesse
Fridays at The Terminal. From then until now DJ Kevy
Kev can still be found spinning at your local club,
promotion, wedding or block party..etc ..playing all types
of music as his background with beat matching actually
started from playing a classical violin.
There is no music that I do not enjoy". All of it has its
own meaning.
Kevy Kev keeps his self humble by acknowledging that
wisdom comes with age.
He gives props to his mentor and peers as well as the
up and coming established djs...
